Every time I meet a new client to discuss estate planning, I invariably ask if they have pets, and ask them to tell me about their dog, cat, or yesterday, cockatiels. Why? Besides getting to know my clients better, an important aspect to estate planning is to ensure that our beloved furry (or feathered) friends are taken care of when we die. While some folks may want to set aside money and detailed wishes for their pets, most simply want to make sure that someone will make sure they have a good home to live with continued love and care.
